Of all the creatures on the face of this earth, few intrigue children the way reptiles and amphibians do. Although Mom's may
not be so excited about all those frogs, turtles, and snakes, kids will fall in love with these little beasties, if given the chance.
It's
very important to educate ourselves and our kids as to which reptiles and amphibians probably should not be bothered, however.
Some are dangerous, and a few are deadly. Please take a look at the Youth Outdoors USA "Dangerous Plants and Animals" page for
more information.
I, for one, have amazing memories of seaching for turtles after a heavy rain in Oklahoma as a child... or maybe
hunting horny toads... or bullfrogs, when fish weren't biting. Even garter snakes are wonderful little reptiles that do
a great deal of good for the balance of nature, and will do no harm to children.
It's pretty special to see the huge smile on
the face of a child that holds a lizard for the first time, or experiences that garter snake coil around a tiny finger!
We hope
you all will give this group of cool little guys a chance... Your kids will love 'em!
